Caribbean cuisine in Lincoln

"Turtle Bay Lincoln" is a vibrant restaurant in Lincoln, England, that specializes in Caribbean-inspired cuisine and brings a relaxed island atmosphere to the city. Situated in the heart of the Cornhill Quarters, a revitalized area of the city, it is part of the Turtle Bay chain, known throughout the UK for its connection to the flavors and culture of the Caribbean. The restaurant, spread over two floors, attracts a diverse clientele—from families and students to couples—who appreciate the tropical vibe, spicy dishes, and lively music. It captures the essence of the Caribbean through food, drinks, and ambiance, making it ideal for casual gatherings or lively evenings.

Vibrant restaurant Cornhill Quarter

The interior of "Turtle Bay Lincoln" pays homage to the Caribbean way of life: the lower floor features a colorful dining area with vibrant blues and oranges, wooden elements, and walls decorated with bespoke, island-inspired artwork and murals. Upstairs, guests can find a special "Rum Hideaway" with its own bar and a rooftop terrace offering views over the Cornhill Quarter—a perfect spot to enjoy a drink while taking in the scenery. Reggae and soul music fill the space, creating an energetic atmosphere that can sometimes make conversations a bit challenging, though this is often perceived as part of the authentic charm. The outdoor terrace is especially popular on mild days when guests want to soak up the sun in a relaxed setting.

Fresh cocktails and drinks

Culinary offerings at "Turtle Bay Lincoln" feature fresh, flavorful dishes that reflect the soul of the Caribbean. The "Jerk Chicken" is a standout—marinated in a spicy blend for 24 hours and grilled on a traditional jerk grill, it delivers a smoky, intense flavor that is often served with coconut rice and peas. Equally favored is the "Curry Goat," a slow-cooked goat dish with deep, spicy flavors that combines warmth and enjoyment. For a lighter option, the "Rum BBQ Wings" provide juicy chicken wings with a sweet and tangy rum BBQ sauce, making for a perfect appetizer. Vegan guests are also well catered for, with offerings like the "Vegan Motherclucker," a plant-based burger that delivers the same bold flavors. The dishes are not only strong in taste but also presented in a colorful manner, enhancing the Caribbean flair.

Bottomless brunch in Lincoln

The beverage selection is a central part of the experience. "Turtle Bay Lincoln" is famous for its handcrafted cocktails, often served as part of a 2-for-1 offer during happy hour—a hallmark of the chain that is highly appreciated by guests. The "Passion Rum Punch" is a favorite, a fruity blend with strong rum that instantly evokes a holiday vibe. Also popular is the "Coconut Espresso Martini," which combines classic elements with tropical notes. Rum takes center stage, in line with the Caribbean identity, and is offered in over 20 different varieties. Additionally, local beers like Red Stripe and non-alcoholic options like mocktails round out the offerings.

Rum and local beers

A highlight is the "Bottomless Brunch," which is extremely popular among visitors. Here, guests can enjoy unlimited cocktails, mocktails, Prosecco, or Red Stripe for two hours, paired with dishes like the "Big Kingston Grill Down," a hearty breakfast featuring jerk sausages and scrambled eggs. The atmosphere during brunch is lively, with fast service and a cheerful crowd celebrating the weekend. However, on busy days, the service can feel a bit hectic, which some perceive as a minor flaw while others accept it as part of the relaxed island mentality.

The Turtle Bay chain was founded with the vision of bringing the warmth and spirit of the Caribbean to the UK, and the Lincoln location passionately embodies this idea. The restaurant is part of a larger project to revitalize the Lincoln Central Market and has created numerous jobs for the local community with its opening. The staff is known for their friendliness and energy, with individual team members often praised for their attentive service—even if there are occasional wait times during peak hours. It also offers takeaway options, increasing its flexibility.

Confusion over starters, a fair time after ordering was told one choice was unavailable. The person in question chose something else , then they came back again , saying hers was actually ok and another was unavailable? One of our table was late getting her starter because of this . Waiting staff very apologetic and seemed embarrassed about the confusion. Obviously a problem in the kitchen . Food when arrived was tasty

Niall was a fab waiter, we had bottomless brunch and he was constantly ordering our next order ones. Atmosphere was great really busy, would be nice if music was just a little bit louder but still quiet enough you could hear conversations. Our food did take a while to come but we was enjoying bottomless drinks anyway

At Lincoln. Served mainly by Callum and previously by another young girl. We have raved about this place to friends and have had great experiences previously. Been served by Lilly in the past and gave 5 stars. Pre booked weeks in advance. Booking was for 12:30 arrived at 12.20 was given the choice of two tables. Because we had small suitcases without leaving them we had one choice of table in the corner. Welcome drink came at 12:30. First choice of drink came at around 12:45/50. The young girl ordering the drinks apologised for the delay and took an other order. Unlike other occasions we were left dry without a drink, waiting for a drink on two or more occasions. The girl seemed to leave the service and Callum took over. He seemed to know two ladies in the corner booth near the window, who didn’t do without drinks. I had to actually ask to order a drink when walked past. Then at 14:09 we had a bill placed on our table and was asked to vacate the table in 5 minutes. Not even two hours and no offer of a final drink or pre warning. This has never happened before. When I mentioned this to the manager she said I you get your final bill 20 minutes before. She said we had more than the Average amount of drinks 13. Wrong because we could not have had an odd number of drinks. But she was missing the point!! It’s about service. Service we have received brilliantly in the past three times here. Absolutely crap experience and would not recommend again to anyone. Food lovely and drinks great when they actually came! Cannot fault the quality but service and customer service lacking badly today. When you disagree with your customer who clearly wasn’t happy, in public and make no way to making it right then you need new staff or new manager in place.

I always love to leave a review here as it is so great. I have brought my mum and her boyfriend this afternoon for a brunch & lunch (so far have had a bottomless brunch) and it was amazing as always. We had AJ as our server and they were spectacular and kept on top of us. I always recommend. :)

Big thanks to our waiter, Callum. We were very well looked after for our bottomless brunch. Considering how rammed the restaurant was, we didn’t experience a wait. Very appreciative of how we were looked after by Callum and loved the food and variety of cocktails. Thank you :)
